But the judge, perhaps taking pity on him, sentenced him to twenty years of supervised probation. He moved back in with his grandmother, took a vocational course in word processing, and worked as a clerk and an industrial packer. The psychologist who’d evaluated him gave him weekly counselling for depression, and he attended group therapy. He seemed to be improving.
